For the first time in Iraq, we successfully used sports to raise funds for cancer patients through a 4km race in Sulaymaniyah in May 2016, supporting Hiwa Cancer Hospital. Beyond fundraising, the event aimed to raise media awareness about the hospital and the struggles of cancer patients. More than 500 participants, both men and women, joined the race. A month before the event, five registration and awareness points were set up in public places to encourage participation, collect donations, and distribute cancer awareness materials.
Since 2017, this charity sports initiative has been organized annually in Erbil every March under the name Omeed Charity Run, attracting hundreds of participants, including students. Our mobile teams visit schools and universities, conducting seminars and workshops to educate students about social responsibility and the importance of collective efforts in addressing public health challenges.
